Worksheet
Plumbing Pricing Calculator Template
Build a range per service, not per job. For each service, write down your diagnostic fee, a labour allowance, a common materials allowance, factors for access and urgency, your permit policy, and a minimum charge — then set the low and high ends and decide whether the job can be ranged at all. The worksheet below is the whole method; print it and do one service at a time.
Quick Quote Gen produces a preliminary estimated price range from owner-controlled pricing rules. It is not a binding quote. The final price is confirmed by the business after review, and after an on-site inspection when the job requires one.
How to use this worksheet
Take one service you sell often — say standard faucet replacement. Fill in a row at a time using your real costs and your real market. Do not start from a national average; there is no national average that knows what your van, your insurance or your city costs.
Any numbers shown here are editable fictional examples
The example column exists to show the shape of an answer, not to suggest a price. These are invented placeholders. Replace every one of them with your own figures before you use this for anything.
Plumbing service pricing worksheet
One worksheet per service. Example values are fictional placeholders for formatting only.
Service category
Name it the way a customer would say it, not the way the supply house would.
Editable example (fictional): Standard faucet replacement (kitchen)
Your value: ______
Diagnostic / service-call fee
What you charge to show up and assess. Note whether it is waived if the work proceeds.
Editable example (fictional): $ ____ , waived on approval: yes / no
Your value: ______
Labour allowance or flat-rate base
Either an hours allowance at your rate, or the flat base you have settled on. Use whichever you can defend to a customer.
Editable example (fictional): ____ hours × $ ____ /hr, or flat $ ____
Your value: ______
Common materials allowance
Typical consumables and small parts for this job, with your markup policy stated. Exclude customer-supplied fixtures.
Editable example (fictional): $ ____ , markup ____%
Your value: ______
Access / complexity factor
Crawl space, tight cabinet, corroded shut-off, second storey, no isolation valve. Express as a multiplier or an added allowance.
Editable example (fictional): × ____ or + $ ____
Your value: ______
Urgency / weekend policy
Your after-hours, weekend and same-day policy. Write the rule, not a vague "call for pricing".
Editable example (fictional): After hours + ____% ; weekend + $ ____
Your value: ______
Permit / code uncertainty
Does this job ever trigger a permit or code upgrade in your jurisdiction? If yes, it is excluded from the range and stated as such.
Editable example (fictional): Excluded from range: yes / no
Your value: ______
Minimum charge
The floor that makes a drive worthwhile. Nothing ranged should ever land below it.
Editable example (fictional): $ ____
Your value: ______
Low end of range
Best realistic case: easy access, no surprises, standard parts. Never below the minimum charge.
Editable example (fictional): $ ____
Your value: ______
High end of range
Realistic bad case that still does not require re-scoping. If the honest high is more than roughly double the low, this job probably should not be ranged.
Editable example (fictional): $ ____
Your value: ______
Inspection required?
If yes, no range is shown. The customer sees a review message and a reason.
Editable example (fictional): Yes / No — reason: ____
Your value: ______
Presenting a flat rate transparently
Both the pricing structure and the way it is explained can affect customer trust. A flat price is easier to evaluate when the scope, inclusions, exclusions, and conditions that may change it are stated clearly. If a number appears with no scope attached, a customer has little to evaluate it against.
What every ranged or flat price should state
- What is included, in plain words
- What is explicitly not included
- Whether the fixture or part is supplied by you or the customer
- What conditions would change the price, before you arrive
- Whether the service-call fee is credited against the work
- Your warranty or guarantee terms on the labour
- That the final price is confirmed after review or inspection where required
Plumbers and homeowners argue about flat-rate versus hourly pricing constantly in public trade forums. Those threads are useful for understanding how customers react to price presentation, and they are anecdotal community discussion — not data, not standards, and not representative of any market. Two are linked in the sources section below.

Printing the worksheet
Use the print button at the top of the worksheet. The page prints the worksheet and its guidance only — navigation, buttons and unrelated sections are removed by the print stylesheet, so you get a clean sheet with room to write. No download or account is required.
Frequently asked questions
- What should a plumber charge for a service call?
- We are not going to publish a number and call it an industry average. Build it from your own costs: drive time, vehicle costs, insurance, overhead and the margin you need, then check it against what your local market actually pays.
- How wide should a range be?
- Wide enough to be honest and narrow enough to be useful. As a rule of thumb, if the honest high is more than about double the low, the job needs a look rather than a range.
- Should the worksheet numbers go straight into my calculator?
- Yes — that is the point of filling it in. The worksheet rows map directly onto owner-controlled pricing rules: base price, allowances, factors, minimum charge, and the inspection-required setting.
